Thanksgiving Camp Out

Thanksgiving break was a wonderful time for our family, and hopefully yours as well. Even though our holiday started with our baby girl having a high fever and vomiting, we made the best of it. Sadly, we missed out on the holiday family dinner, but we scrambled as parents do and put together our own dinner. We ended up eating steaks, leftovers from our own Thanksgiving dinner from the past weekend and fresh veggies we got the day before at Janoski’s farm. The dinner and the day ended up going well and turned out delicious.

Before dinner we got to decorating the outside of our house, putting up lights and decorations throughout the yard. Tanner was a big help and poor Ava did her best to keep up, but sadly needed her rest. As Ava relaxed and napped, we worked hard to get the outside of the house done. We managed to get the majority of it done all while Ava was passed out. Once we got the ground level done, it was time for me to get on the roof and hang the icicle lights. While I was up on the roof playing Spiderman, Ashley and the kids were getting dinner started. Once the roof lights were hung up, I jumped down and started grilling the steaks.

While decorating and making dinner was a great time, the night brought the real festivities. In our area it was roughly 50 degrees during the day and dropped to mid 40’s during the night. The wife and I started up a nice fire in our pit and enjoyed some adult beverages while the kids played inside. Eventually Tanner and Ava made their way outside to also enjoy the fire, which made it even more magical. Sharing moments like this are what means the most to us as parents. While enjoying the fire Tanner and I came up with the idea to camp out. He was fully on board with setting up our tent and making it happen.

I was all for it myself, once we got mom on board we ran to the garage and began preparing the materials. Luckily, we have a small three person pop up tent that sets up in seconds. This tent made the whole night possible. Then from there we gathered lights, sleeping pads and bags and got some extra blankets and pillows from the house to make us cozy and warm. The final preparation was gathering some drinks and snacks to keep us busy before we fell asleep.

This was a wonderful night, and a memory I will forever hold near and dear to my heart. My son was so excited for this chance to camp, and I was able to make it come true. He woke up in the morning in cheer, shouting, “Daddy, daddy, I slept out here all night!” It melted my heart. I will forever try to make my childrens wants come true and will always hope to be a part of their lives through all the ups and downs. Cannot wait for our next adventure.
